    Antique 1897 Cyclists Cup Telescopic Collapsible Metal Drinking Cup Tandem Bike

    Original antique "Cyclist cup" collapsible travel drinking cup
    Plated tin telescoping design with embossed image of tandem bicycle with victorian couple enjoying a ride.
    This cyclist cup was patented on Feb. 23, 1897 by John Lines in Waterbury, Connecticut. The popularity of bicycles is thought to have inspired Lines, whose neighbor Columbia bicycles began manufacturing bicycles in nearby Hartford in 1878. Variations of the collapsible cup in the early 1900's are a result of the success of this portable drinking device that had been patented by Lines.
    Approximate dimensions: 2 1/2" round x 3/4" thick. Expands to a 2 3/4" tall cup.
