Trilobites are an extinct group of Arthropods that thrived during the Paleozoic era roughly 250-540 millioin yeras ago. With thousands of species found throughout the world, Trilobites addapted to many different ocean environments succesfully for well over 250 million years. These arthropods went extinct during the final stages of the Permian epoch some 250 million years ago. They inhabited vast areas of the oceans and there distribution and evolution gave them the advantage of utilizing many different types of food sources. From being bottom scavengers to literaly swimming for plankton, these animals filled just about every nitch in the food chain including hunting there own kind as predators. Trilobites can be found all over the world and it is believed among scientists that they originated in Siberia. There bodies are a hard exoskeleton much like an insects and there features seem to be a flat bottom and the upper or top part of its body would protect the soft inner body of the animal. Some have spines and some are more flat like in structure but the main feature is that they are composed of sections hence the name Trilobite which means "three sections".
