BOY SCOUTS BSA 1915 2ND CLASS RANK PIN (SCP-05) PRE WW1 TUCSON ESTATE

Description

From a forgotten box in my office closet and a Tucson estate almost four decades ago is this WW1 Boy Scouts of America BSA 2nd Class rank pin. The pin is specifically of the type called SCP-05 on the Boy Scout Insignia Virtual Museum website, as issued in 1915 - two years before America's official entry into the Great War. It has all of the diagnostic traits of that version including the bullet style clasp and unmistakable early "V" shaped suspender for the wire knot. So you know this came with two 1918 Boy Scout war service medals I had listed separately. That distinguished service included the procurement of at least 0. in pledged War Saving Stamp subscriptions, more than a year's wage for a laborer in those times.  My assumption is that these 1915 pins must have continued in issuance along with the 1916 type SCP-06 until remaining stocks were used up, in keeping with the Scouting belief in wartime thrift.  Condition is quite fine with an aura of time to the surfaces. A good deal of the original gilt finish and the wire knot are still present. The pin and clasp still work as they should. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 25mm horizontal. If you seek out these early  WW1 era BSA insignia and prefer examples with some history thrown in, or simply wish a tangible symbolic tie to earlier 20th century values that still hold true, this will have great meaning for you.
