    Description

    Mammoth Tooth
    10,000-150,000 Years Old
    Pleistocene
Mammoths were very closely related to modern Indian elephants, and their teeth are very similar with a series of transverse ridges used for grinding plant material. These teeth are very different from Mastodon, which has a number of cone shaped cusps for smashing tougher plant food. Mammoths went extinct worldwide 10,000 years ago, though there are reports of isolated populations surviving in Russia until as recently as 3000 years ago.
