    Description

This is a Tlingit fighting double-dagger knife made of hand wrought iron. It comes from a family member of Tlingit and Tahltan heritage, a U.S. citizen born in Canada.
Daggers are made for close contact fighting and killing. The poster photo is not part of this auction but shows warriors in the heat of battle with helmets, daggers, and clubs. The man on the left is wearing wooden slat armor.  This is a museum quality piece.
An iron dagger like this one could go back quite a long time, given that iron was available from Asian sources through trade and drift. A museum director informed that they were made  through the mid 1800s when warfare was on the decline and as steel blades were becoming available.
