    Description

    Triceratops horridus
    Tooth with Double Root
    70 Million Years BP
    Late Cretaceous
    Maastrichtian
    Hell Creek
    Butte County
    , Montana
This tooth is a rare find.
Although Triceratops sp. teeth are common, it is rare to find even partial roots or complete crowns.
This specimen demonstrates the double-root system of some ceratopsian teeth.
In the jaw of the dinosaur, a replacement tooth would have been nestled in between the two roots, waiting to push out the tooth above when it had worn out.
